The BVA/KC/ISDS Eye Scheme is a collaborative program run by the British Veterinary Association (BVA), The Kennel Club (KC), and the International Sheep Dog Society (ISDS) to screen for and identify inherited and non-inherited eye conditions in dogs. Carried out by specialist veterinary ophthalmologists, the scheme helps breeders select healthy stock for breeding, aiming to reduce the occurrence of painful and blinding eye diseases in future generations of dogs.
Gonioscopy in dogs is a veterinary eye exam used to assess the drainage angle of the eye, specifically the iridocorneal angle, which is where fluid drains out of the eye. This procedure is crucial for detecting potential issues like primary glaucoma, an inherited condition that can lead to blindness due to increased intraocular pressure. Gonioscopy helps determine if the drainage angle is normal or if there are abnormalities that could lead to glaucoma.
The British Veterinary Association (BVA) Hip and Elbow Dysplasia Schemes use radiography to assess hip and elbow joints in dogs. For hips, each joint is scored on nine features, with a total score ranging from 0 to 106, where a lower score indicates less hip dysplasia. For elbows, the scheme grades the degree of dysplasia and secondary osteoarthritic changes, providing a grade.
Autumn has passed all of the tests which means is good for breeding
